Please read the following…
You can help prevent suicides by knowing the warning signs and helping others as shown below:
Know the warning signs that may indicate when a person is at risk: Some warning signs to look for are…
Talking about being a burden to others
Talking about feeling hopeless or having no reason to live
Talking about feeling trapped or being in unbearable pain
Talking about wanting to die or kill oneself
Looking for a way to kill oneself
Increasing the use of alcohol or drugs
Withdrawing or feeling isolated
Showing rage or talking about seeking revenge
Displaying extreme mood swings? Which can bring about long-lasting symptoms such as overwhelming sadness, low energy, loss of appetite and lack of interest in things that used to bring pleasure.
If you are concerned about someone committing suicide: Intervene as indicated below…
Ask openly and compassionately, “Are you thinking about suicide?”
Listen to the person without judgement, arguing, threatening or yelling; And don’t try to “fix it”.
Call 911 or your local emergency number if suicide seems imminent.
Stay with the person and keep them safe until help arrives.
Remove any guns, knives, medications, or other things that may cause them harm.
Help the person find the right kind of help by calling the help lines.
Suicide and Crisis Lifeline Emergency number 988 (available 24/7)…
(This is a shorter, easier to remember and use number for the 1-800-273-8255 Emergency number… which is also still avaialble.)
Or if Not an emergency and to locate an agency to help, call 1-800-950-6264… (available M-F, 10am-6pm ET).
Something worth knowing:
If you ever, ever think that…
“This world or my family or my friends would be better off without me”, that is a red-flag thought! (Get Help Now!!) Please make the 988 number call for help.
That is an extremely dangerous thought and is not true for many, many reasons. One reason is you are capable of love; the world needs more love… the world needs you!
Do not sell yourself short. Know that you are important! Because if you stick around, you will be able to help someone else through their tough times down the road.
BE STRONG. BE A HERO!
So remember, if you are thinking anything similar to these following thoughts:
“This world would be better off without me”.
“My family would be better off without me”.
“My friends would be better off without me”
PLEASE make the call immediately and talk to someone.
